The Hugh L. Spurlock Power Station is a coal-fired power plant located in Maysville, Kentucky that is owned by dirty energy utility East Kentucky Power Cooperative. This plant is responsible for 76 deaths, 120 heart attacks, and 1200 asthma attacks each year as a result of the pollution it spews out.
 

In 2009, The Hugh L. Spurlock Power Station was ranked 98th on a list of the 100 most polluting coal plants in the United States in terms of coal combustion waste. Coal combustion waste is a solid waste that is stored in surface impoundments that are susceptible to spilling which would cause a major environmental and health and safety disaster. This plant needs to be closed because the people of Maysville, Kentucky deserve better.
